All the partying, all the eating, all the drinking, all the fun -- everything that makes the whole holiday season special begins each year around this time, with Halloween kicking things off. So whether you'll be hosting your own shindig on Friday, Oct. 31 or attending one and asked to bring some grog, we've got some recipes for you.
It seems to us that Halloween is one of the first of many holidays where a communal beverage is in order. You need some sort of drink that guests can gather around and chat, and laugh at each other's costumes. Since a keg would be too easy, we recommend punch.
After trolling the Internet and letting our own taste buds do the testing, we've decided on three separate recipes, mostly including vodka and rum, which are pretty easy to make and possess the colors that best represent All Hallows Eve.
In hard liquor times, we need to call on our local watering hole friends to supply their booze and help us figure out whether the recipes we're researching are worth the time. Or, to put it more simply, whether or not they taste like something you'd want to drink.
Becky Bradley, a bartender at the Del Rose Café in Trolley Square, was up to the task on this particular occasion, and so we came to her with three recipes and a few packets of Kool Aid (the main ingredient in a severals of these sweetly ghoulish punches).
