Bandfinder: 101st arden fair
Joe Trainor Trio

We can't all go away to exotic places for Labor Day Weekend. Some of us have to work over the weekend, and maybe some of us have just spent too many weekends (and too much of the moolah on gas) at the beach this summer, so it's time to stay put in good old New Castle County.

But that doesn't mean it has to be a boring weekend of just backyard barbecues. There's plenty going on up this way, in particular the 101st Arden Fair on Saturday, Aug. 30, which will include a nice set list of bands, amusements, food and crafts from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

We know we're way ahead on this, but we're planners, so here's a look at who's playing the festival and what's going on all day. And keep in mind, outside the crafts, food and drink, admission is free, which is pretty awesome, we might add. (Rain date is Sunday, Aug. 31, from 12-6 p.m.)

Diamond State Band, 10:30 a.m. * Big band at its best, with instrumental marches and themes galore.

Strings of Prussia, 11:45 a.m. * The sound of bluegrass, country and folk rock will be echoing through the forest.

Leslie Carey Band, 1 p.m. * This folk rock foursome from Wilmington sometimes dips into the psychedelic.

Mythica, 3:30 p.m. * Our favorite Celtic quintet arrives just in time for a mid-afternoon set that should go just right with the whole Shakespeare Gild vibe and olde tyme feel. Expect violin, mandolin, whistles and the hammered dulcimer.

Joe Trainor Trio, 4:45 p.m. * We were really impressed with Joe's ability on the keys at the Spark Summer Music Series at Mojo 13 a few weeks ago. Word from the band is that they'll be playing Led Zeppelin II in its entirety. Nice.

If you want to be considered for the band bio feature, you must play original music, perform live in places other than your basement and have some sort of recorded tracks readily available. Send your info to Holly Norton at hnorton@sparkweekly.com or Rob Kalesse at rkalesse@sparkweekly.com.
