Old 97's at The Cork
Still, fans got their fill of Old 97's classics, like "Barrier Reef," which helped get things started around 10:45 p.m., followed thereafter by a right-on version of "Weightless," and "Rollerskate Skinny," just after midnight.
By the time they got to "W-i-f-e," around 12:30, it was obvious that Miller was taking the lyrics to heart: I've got my wife, the other women, and the whiskey killing me/I'd give up the other women, and the W-I-F-E.
After asking questions about why Dewey lacked a high school football team, and paying a bit of homage to Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson ("this week's unfortunate three"), the band busted into what is arguably their most amped-up single, "Timebomb," which brought the fairly small crowd rushing to the stage in excitement, ending things on a high note.
With another late night under the belt, the ride back upstate the next morning was a bit rough, but seeing most of the traffic rolling down the other side of the highway, on their way to a crowded summer weekend, was just fun to watch.
