Angel: Tilda Swinton, “Constantine”

An unforgettable presence in a most forgettable movie: Gabriel (Tilda Swinton), the winged angel who advises—and admonishes—reluctant exorcist Constantine (Keanu Reeves). Constantine sees the demons walking among us, and he attempts to make reparations to God by smiting as many evildoers as he can. Gabriel observes his missions, counsels him to ditch his smoking habit, and all but leaves him speechless by spreading wings and decrying the will of the Lord. The demons Constantine chases are plenty scary, but it’s the booming, breathtaking Gabriel who brings down the real sound and the fury.
